Thirsk is a market town in the Hambleton former district of North Yorkshire. As well as being a traditional Yorkshire market town, Thirsk was also the home of renowned fictional vet, James Herriot (real name Alf White, whose veterinary practice was in the town). Boasting the spectacular backdrops of the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors, it’s no wonder this much-loved author was so inspired living and working here.
Thirsk is well served by the road network with good links to the A1(M), A19 to the North York Moors and York as well as the A61 to Ripon & Harrogate or the A170 to Scarborough.
On the Western outskirts of Thirsk is a train station with trains heading via Northallerton to Darlington, Durham & Newcastle, or via York to the East Coast mainline (including London).
Thirsk is blessed with a variety of restaurants, coffee houses and public houses. Due in part to the popularity of these establishments we recommned that you book a table. Click here if you want to see a list of the restaurants available in the town ahead of your visit to the festival.
From staying in a old coaching house situated in the centre of Thirsk Market place through to a modern hotel experience on the outskirts of the town Thirsk has it all. Click here if you want to see a list of the accomodation available to you ahead of your visit to the festival.
