Welcome to the Events page. Here at Thirsk and Sowerby Festival 2024, we try to give Adults and Children something to do which is FREE and fun to do. All the events listed here will take place at our 2024 event on Sunday 4th August between 10am - 5pm.
We ask that you complete our entry form ahead of your chosen event here
The timing of these events are approximate, so make sure you keep an eye on our social media networks for up to date timings.

- Francis Elliot, the owner of Kando Canine Capers of Thirsk will be attending Thirsk and Sowerby Festival for 2024 holding ‘Come and Try Dog Agility’
- It is free to take part in the event to show off your dogs abilities, or to see what they have got yourself if you have never done it before.
- Francis will also be fundraising on the day for her chosen charity/organisation so any donations will be welcome, as well as taking part in the scent competition (for a small fee) where prizes can be won!
- Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers will be attending our event again for 2024 holding a Fun Run, where anyone for any age, ability or gender can take part for FREE.
- You will start near the stage where people will gather behind the start line, and then you will run the course and anyone who takes part and finishes the run will receive a medal for participation. (The course will be decided by Harrier on the day to ensure a safe and fair route around the Festival ground is found.
- This year the now rebranded Bordley House Shires will be attending the festival and will have a slot in the main area for people to ask questions and see the shires themselves!
- Not only will Robin be joining us this year but also they have Boadicea - the 1 year old Shire. Bordley House Shires now consists of Sue and Stand Brown and Cailidh, Andy and Sheila Richmond along with Daniel Wright.
- Bordley House Shires will also have a pot of donations at our event, with all monies going to the Shire House Society.

- Thirsk and Sowerby Festival 2024 have booked a Magician!
- Rob Hutchinson Magic has agreed to attend the festival to give us all things magic, with his two shows on the day he will also be selling balloon animals on the day for a very small cost!
Thirsk and Sowerby Festival have held their Welly Toss competition for a number of years now! Under 16’s and 16’s and over categories… It is one of the Festivals most popular events to take part in! If you think you hold a chance to become Thirsk and Sowerby Festival’s Tosser Champion, or maybe your a previous champion risking your title.

- One of our Main Sponsors ‘Monk Park Farm’ has asked to come on stage and do something exciting! But it's that much of a surprise even we haven’t been told yet!
- More details will be released as we know more!
- This year Axemore have agreed to attend our event to give people lessons on how to Axe Throw! They will be charging a small fee for people to participate, but also they will be talking for a short time on stage about their upcoming World Championship Axe Throwing Event!
Has your child got way too much energy? Will you be attending? Thirsk and Sowerby Festival 2024 (10am - 5pm). Can you get a group of 6 together all under 14 years of age? Say no more, get applying below and watch them as they battle it out against other teams to be crowned the winner for 2024!
- Have you seen the Monkey Tail Race?
- Simply join in the fun on the day... by attaching a tail (supplied by the Festival) to your child and watch them try and hoop us as many ‘discs’ as possible.
- This event will be run as a time trial, with the fastest time winning
- Always up for a laugh?
- Think you're good on your feet?
- Then look no further, Attach the Plastic Chickens supplied by the Festival to your feet, and avoid the person blindfolded trying to tag you with the inflatable hammer. The last one to be caught will be crowned, THE LAST PERSON STANDING!

The event EVERYONE gets excited for. The event where grown adults act like kids, and the kids get to have as much fun as the Adults. The event where EVERYONE looks crazy. It’s the one, the only, inflatable suit race! In 2023 we didn’t have enough suits, so we’ve been out and got more, but we are saying in 2024, if you have an inflatable suit of your own you would like to use, please let us know! This will be signed on the day before taking part in the events of any kind.
